April 2011: This was our third stay at the Eco-Hostel, and each time has been fantastic. The location is perfect, and not just because it's in one of the most picturesque bays in Victoria - the hostel itself is just two minutes from the restaurants and shops, and five minutes from the glorious beach.

The hostel is a beautifully designed and welcoming retreat that defies its 'buget' class status. The lounge features a log fire, there's a funky TV room with bean bags, two fully equipped kitchens with bbqs, a roof top balcony with views, and modern bedrooms and bathrooms. Even the outside landscaping matches the bayside location perfectly. It also comes with the friendliest management you will ever meet.

Of course, you have to remember it's still a hostel, so rooms are sparse and you share bathrooms, but that is why it costs just $80 for a double.

Ask for a room with a balcony if there is one, much better, and make sure you visit the Cape Otway lighthouse. The lighthouse itself is good fun, with a really top quality cafe, but the route down is even more spectacular. You will drive through forest with dozing Koala's all above you! If you stop at the campsite halfway down you will also get close and personal with them, and there is a breathtaking walking path down to remote Station beach. Enjoy, we will be back!
