Here's what you get at the Stonelea Country Estate: Kangaroos on your doorstep (tick), tranquil lake just yards from the deck of your cottage (tick), wholesome, delicious hot breakfast (tick), easy access to stunning hill walks in the Lake Eildon National Park (tick), cosy log fires (tick)... Stonelea has so many great things going for it, you may well wonder why anyone would dare complain. But complain they do (*see Tripadvisor if you don't believe me.)

Yep, the cottages are getting a little old, and could do with a face lift and some insulation but they're spacious and comfortable, and there's so many things right about this place, it's easy to forgive them. Besides, that's why you can grab a great deal here with a room, breakfast, a massage, a bottle of wine, and a late afternoon check out for under a hundred bucks a night all in. They even throw in a round of golf on their private course, but travelling up to the delightful Goulburn Valley just to chase a little white ball down the fairways seems to be missing the point, with with the glorious Lake Eildon National Park just half an hour away.

Room Tip: In summer choose a cottage by the lake, in winter choose a room in the main block (should be warmer...)
