Is there such a thing as celebrating too much?

I thought the English cricket team won the award for over the top celebrations when they reclaimed the Ashes in 2005. And then last week or so Manchester United won their nineteenth premier title, and I received a tonne of mails from gloating United fans. I dread to think what will happen if they win the Champions League Final next week.

Anyway, it's by the by. They have all been outdone. The Finnish team have just won the Ice Hockey world championship for the first time ever. If fact it might be the first time Finland have won just about anything. So maybe we should forgive them. Or not.

Apparently the whole team were completely drunk on the stage front of 100 000 people and millions of Finns watching live on TV. One of the team managers was so drunk that he could not get out of the bus. One player was hugging the lady president whilst the president was trying to keep him standing upright. A few fans managed to climb up on the roof of the presidential palace and use it as a urinal.

There were parties in every single city in Finland. Finns living in the North were crossing the Swedish border to celebrate there too - Swedish police tried to get the border closed from the Finns, but to no avail.

Eventually the Sports Minister of Finland had to get involved, telling that the team manager of the that the celebrations had gone over the top.

This is the same team manager featured in this video.....
